Also, howdy folks. Sorry I've been quiet for so long. (Or, if you were glad I was gone, sorry I'm back.) - I'm dealing with some RL issues. Wheee. XD

Good to see you back, good luck with your RL issues.

So units do not pop with the knowledge that they get disbanded by going through the portal.

Could that mean that the disbanding was not put in place by the Titans, but something that some casters did afterwards?

I seem to remember that at least one Ruler unit has been shown to HAVE an innate sense of that...

I think it's more likely that the VERY FIRST units to ever pop on erfworld didn't know it, but that the innate knowledge was added to subesquent units at some point.... I believe Erfworld includes "The Book of Retcon" after all...

Arguably, the first 99 Kings and Queens were not popped by Erf's cities, but instead made by the Titans; they may have thus lacked the intrinsic knowledge that all later units would units pop with.
I got the feeling that Archie "knew" he would die if he went through, intellectually, but didn't truly believe it until he tested it. Apparently he had nobody he could send through as a guinea pig.
Every Capitol City is unique right? Well, Nestly may have gotten to joyful stick of not being able to pop it's own units. Not an issue really if it was on the mainland - it could have convinced ferals to join it or made an alliance with a tribe, or just been conquered. But isolated, apart from a slowly filling up Erfworld with only 99 sides, none of which have reason to visit a random empty island? Well, that would drive anyone mad.

That said, I don't think we'll get an explanation until later in the story.

I do not recall any evidence for that. Why would they even need it? It's probably as obvious as the fact that "royal" units are superior---which is to say, not at all, but many units seem to know this innately. Whether it is true or not is a different matter; clearly it is for portals, mostly.

You might be thinking about this? But it doesn't show Stanley innately knowing it.

That was probably what I was thinking of, yes. thanks.
Just now I was thinking again on what the World-shattering importance might be of Archie's story.

What if he and al the other 99 first Rulers came from Stupidworld?

It would explain why they wouldn't know any of the rules of Erfworld, and why they (and not subsequent, popped Rulers) would need tutelary advisors.

Some of the Stupidworld Rulers might have been good gamers, like Parson, and might have been able to tamper with the Nestly tutelary / capital so it couldn't pop (talking) units any more.

And apparently Erfworld does not have a spell called Summon Boat, as Age of Wonders does (a game that Erfworld seems in part to be based on).

I don't think they came for stupidworld, or parson presence wouldn't have been inusual for the erfites (transilvito which is a really old side had paintings with previous rulers!)

nor does they have the summon floating island (which probably is the same) from Masters of magic. I didn't played age of whonders, I should probably look at a wiki and check the mechanics beforehand. its like sid meiers alpha centaury?

Btw, I'll also shameless plug here that I have opened yet another contest Math's is in the air! so you all are free to participate. Iwas between that and a contest about the "city of heroes" but I decided mathematicians needs more love now that the 14 feb is coming. <3
