Random thought: Since Ruler Senses give a lot of information about a unit's status and location, when the Tchotchke steps through the Portal will Stanley get a little blip on his mental map that would then show the exact location hex of Charlescomm's Capital?

Maybe. But unless Charlie's used Carnymancy to rig the hex rules around his capital (which I'm certainly not discounting), I would think the location of his capital is common knowledge. At the least, Olive certainly thought she knew.

And his Archanons almost certainly knew.

Oh yeah. I probably shouldn't post on forums late at night when I'm not getting enough sleep.

The SHORT way

Given the mini-unit on the first page, I was surprised that Book 3 didn't start out with the same line of the first two books: "It's the LITTLE things which make a difference sometimes." ;)

Haha, good point. Though I guess Rob already broke that with Book 0, because Wanda's pop dept was very not-little :p
Unless it is reserved for page 2...

"Unfortunately, sometimes little things don't make a difference at all."

(gruesome tchotchke demise)

Just realized Charlescomm never uses their portal, ever. They have no casters to send to MK, and for secrecy reasons it's unlikely they would ever bring anyone inside, even hired casters. For all we know their portal room could be bricked off and the portal itself hanging over a pool of lava.

Actually, there was a reference to Charlie hiring Turnamancers to speed production and he must hire other casters for other aspects of his defences (such as the Dollamancers for his golem armies) who will actually need to attend in person as well. Charlie is entirely capable of sealing casters to absolute secrecy, as we've seen with Jack and Wanda. Nonetheless his portal probably doesn't look out over the sight we the readers saw at the end of the Chapter 2 epilogue.
Finally. Now maybe we can get some more low-level, easily resolvable bets going on and I can win back some of my quatloo.
I like the possible pun about sending the spy after Stanley, except we can almost be certain that's not going to happen. Stanley is all the way back in GK City, which is no longer the Capital ans therefor has no Portal, and GK no longer has spare Dwagons floating around for a relay. So I really doubt Stanley would be able to make it from GK City all the way to Spacerock that fast
