But I think that's the wrong mental tact to take.

The word you want is "tack", as in the configuration of your sails to set a direction.

Maybe portals are powered by the will of the ruler.

Maybe portals are powered by a big switching station located between Erf and the MK.

Maybe portals are powered by nothing at all.

Maybe portals are powered by magic and gather juice from the air like any caster. They just don't have a limit to the amount of juice they can gather from the air in any given turn, as casters do.

I keep holding on to the point that SentienTowers need an Active Portal, because that needs the least amount of "if"s. ALL current SentienTowers are at capital sites, so with active portals. We know active portals have infinite juice (no matter where they draw it from). We know DormanTowers can be made into SentienTowers by Big Think BY INTERACTION WITH THE ACTIVE PORTAL COLUMN BASE IN THE MAGIC KINGDOM.

No if's or but's about it.

We'll see what happens when one of these cities get taken by another side, or someone tries changing capitals...

BTW, we know from Digdoug when portals disappear, a portal column remains in Portal Park.

There was a column underground, just below where Dove was sitting. This was territory that he remembered, the same sandy dirt he‘d felt before. The rocks were right, the shape of the column...

Does this mean every city has an inactive column in Portal Park? Every side?

That's what happens when I post at 7:20 am after staying up all night.

Too many Thinkamancers running around already.
Actually, given that a significant portion (possibly the majority) of the higher level Thinkamancers in Erfworld have perished in the last turn, and that Thinkamancy is Fate aligned, I'd expect that there is an elevated chance Thinkmancers popping in the near future, especially sides which rely on Thinkamancy (as TV does). But if it were really unlikely, that'd just make Caesar even angrier about it.

The terrible thing would be that she'd have a completely expressionless demeanor too. Like a bigger Wednesday Adams...or rather a physical anti-type of the character working really hard to cosplay as her. Also, actually NOT a great shot...that's sure to score extra points with Caesar.

Okay, enough of picking on the poor guy. I also like the King Dumb idea. Someone develop a hilarious Signamancy for that....

P.S. Only capital sites have portal columns. We don't know what Deiform did to them, but there were several inactive columns visible here (at least six, as many as eight). Most of them are uncovered more than seems strictly necessary just to check them for activity.

The heir is a royal, which means they will take Don's last name. What's another good pun to go with "King?"

Maybe he/she will be a Rhyme-o-mancer named "B.B.," or "Carole," or even "Stephen(ie)"? Ooooh... I could see a Stephenie King, with Signamancy of Pennywise-type character.

Just Dum could work. Lots of punnage potential. A Dum King. Battlecries of Dumking your foes. All the kings men couldn't put Dum back together again.

Yeah. Can fly, but doesn't like to, and insists on calling it "floating." Maybe she'd still want to ally with :stanley: , just not so much on any ideological or political basis, but rather as part of retooling :tv: 's whole strategy around spidews and other tunnel-capable heavies. Gets along well with Bill due to completely sincere shared interests.

That could be all kinds of fun, mostly in the Dwarf Fortress sense.

I like the way you think! "Losing is Fun!"

Every Capital site has a portal column, whether it is currently a Capital or not. The majority of City site are not Capitals.

The only issue with "Dum" is that it's not Bmud spelt backwards. The B is silent ofcourse.

"Dom", being short for "Dominic" had also occured to me, but I fealt it made the pun a bit too obvious (Plus it's not as amusing to call a king "Dum").
