8:02 PST. No update.

Deys cuttin it close.

Exciting.

3:05 PM Western(Eastern? Fuck this round Earth) Pacific Time. Looks like it's overdue. Or are we supposed to wait till 1:AM Ohio time? Deadlines are confusing.

It's supposed to go up by 12am Eastern US time, which is in about 45 minutes.

It's around 3 where you are? Where do you live, the moon?

Wales... New South Wales.

Does that come off as Bonde-esque, or does it sound like there is a town in New South Wales called "Wales"? I've been using that line for years in various places, and I have no idea if anyone ever got the impression that I was doing a Bond impression, and the idea that someone could misconstrue it as me living in a (fictional?) town called "Wales" in the state of New South Wales has been driving me nuts.

Maybe I should just move to Canada, so I can start my life over on the internet by saying "Scotia... Nova Scotia".
I like that this update had Parson with a splitting headache from skirting the limits of his oath, in order to tell that Vanna must be feeling the same. No one else mentioned that in the first 9 pages. Dang I'm late to post.

Oh. Right. Your location, listed under your avatar that I've read before. Yeah, I got the Bond vibe there.

While I have you, do you know if the 'Make Anomynous" checkbox under the Tip buttons actually works? Every time I use it it looks like the Shmuckers come out of my hoard instead of yours.

That's not really a reason, though. If guns are a big deal, there must be a reason for that within the story. And the story needs to tell us what that reason is at some point or it is just an informed quality that readers will start to doubt.

To which I point you to the last paragraph of my original post on the subject.

I admit meta-analysis is proof of nothing by itself. After all authors can miss their mark. But Rob has been pretty reliable about not making a big deal out of something that isn't a big deal. So if he goes out of his way to make the reveal of guns in the very last image of Book 2 look like a big deal... I trust that.

But no, it's not an in-universe reason, which I admitted myself. That doesn't make it invalid, however. It is really a reason... just not an in-universe one.

The last page of Book one had an image of Jillian hurling a teapot. And yet, despite appearing in the final picture of a book, that teapot doesn't seem to be a big deal, or even have shown up again afterwards. Or maybe I just missed it?

The last picture of Book 1, originally, was Parson throwing the sword Ruthlessness in lava. At the time there was no Book 1 and Book2... just Erfworld. The pages after that were added after Rob decided there would be a Book 2. And, actually, Book 2 had a running theme of Parson not giving in to ruthless behavior and generally resisting Fate. Which we know wasn't planned (cause Book 2 wasn't planned) but still ended up happening.

Also the picture you reference does not have the staging that the one I referenced does. No dramatic build up. No associated veiled threat. The artwork is in lighter shades. The "camera" angle and focus is different. Your whole counter argument there is just completely disingenuous. Apples and oranges.

But sarcasm aside, when I saw that picture the first time, the guns barely registered with me. We had already seen Slately use a kind of gun, and even a jetpack, so we were already well aware that modern and even futuristic technology is entirely possible. Thus, guns didn't seem all that special, and they fitted with Charlie's high-tech shtick, so they didn't seem out of place either.

Judging from the reactions thread for that page I'd say the majority had a very different experience. Also, might want to brush up on your history a bit where guns are concerned. It's not that a gun exists that makes them a big deal. The ray gun and jet pack would only be in the same class if there were hundreds of them.

It's "oh boop" not "oh boob."

By now, we have been told repeatedly by characters in the story that guns are special, and people are trying to figure out what makes them so special (and they have ever since that picture, it's not a new question). But that answer can only come from within the comic.

Why they are a big deal is actually rather obvious over all and has been covered repeatedly by other people. But my comment was about whether there were a big deal. Which is why I stepped away from basing basing my argument on why (which clearly wasn't working) and went directly to pointing out that the author intends them to be a big deal (therefore they are). Whether people understand why yet or not is irrelevant to the point I made.

Testing, testing. 1,2,3...9,10.

Darn server lag with the numbers changing.
Odd that it still says at the top that I got 71 schmucks, even after the Anomynous box tip. Checkbox must be broken. Oh well, have fun with the ten schmuckers I made you give yourself with your own wallet.

Added history - when they were originally posted, the updates that are now the Book 1 Epilogue and Book 2 Prologue were in one batch separate to both Books, called the "Summer Updates" (with a year - Summer Updates '09, I think?). This confused me when they were retconjured into being half in one book, half in the other, and I suddenly couldn't find pages that were now in Book 2.

Well obviously it wouldn't do anything for you, but for the rest of us, isn't it supposed to be for when we see a post that's pretty good, but we don't want to use our own Shmuckers to tip so we check that box to "Make Anomynous" tip it?
You know what I'm wondering.

I'm wondering what Benjamin will think of this change of Leadership.

Ben and Don were friends, from what I understand, and after Don goes down to fight with him him more, suddenly he dies and Ceaser is overlord? I think a logical conclusion to draw there would be "Ceaser offed King Don". He also doesn't know that he and Bunny were in love, or about thinkmancy secrets, so maybe he killed their thinkamancer on the way to Don, too.

I think he'll be pretty displeased with Lord Caesar.

Eh...maybe. I suspect he'll be more understanding. His namesake was always a practical man, and quite a diplomat. He himself was already at odds with Don over many of his recent decisions, and realized (thanks to the bracer) that working against Hamster (as Don was planning to do) was a dangerous thing. He won't necessarily be happy with Don being dead, but I think he'll understand, and respect his new overlord. They already got along well in previous scenes where we've seen them together, and have clearly both been in agreement when they disagreed with Don.
Ben had fundamental disagreements with the direction of TV, and their relationship with FAQ. He might be annoyed at the events, but he trusts Caesar, and if Caesar said that Bunny did it out of duty, and he was going to be disbanded due to his Duty as well, Ben will go along.
