O.K. this is going to reasonably sound like I'm not Paying enough attention (I'm not). Who're the folks in the bead and why's everyone drunk?

One of the folks in the bed is the Dirtamancer serving as Ivan Poe's jailor. He just detected Ivan's escape and is presumably a little upset with Ivan's betrayal.

As for why everyone's drunk, I'm assuming it has to do with Signamancy. I'm not familiar with what the reference is, maybe the fact that they're rock stars? Might be connected with why Dove says Dirtamancers tend to be creeps? I dunno.

O.K. Thank you.
That second to last panel made me laugh with the Dirtmancer thinking his lover farted. Some nice dirty humor that. Also live the explanation with the Toy Soldier. That puts that story to rest for the audience at least.

?
He was Ivan's jailor. He got woken up by the mental notification that Ivan had gone on the lamb.

Now what do you think indicates that? We never got an inkling that that's how the prisoner system works. You totally made that mechanic up.
It's fair there is no hard mechanics for it I can find, but Mike Robe woke up right after Claud broke Ivan's chains with no indication that the digging was causing rumbles. It is posible that their beds are built directly from the stone of the ground and Mike sensed it that way, but he still wasn't refering to the lady he was with farting(?).

Well, we know from the Backer stories that Dirtamancers need to touch the ground to feel the Erf around them. Digdoug slept with a bare foot on the ground so he could feel the "heart of Erfworld" or something like that.
Wasn't it established that you knew basic information about a Prisoner of yours? So if you went from having A prisoner to having No prisoner, that's a state change you could be aware of.

Sure, but it's entirely possible that he wasn't officially anyone's prisoner. It would explain his having juice, at the very least.

It's odd any way you look at it that he had juice.
Carnymancy item broke his chains. Anything's possible.
