Epilogue - 003

Turns since TBfGK: 1

Baring his teeth into the wind, Stanley shook his head and swooped down again. The place was unrecognizable! He could see Hamster, Maggie, and the...tunneler, the one who did toilet duty, Sideways or whatever his name was, on the new parapet of the new tower. But he didn't feel like buzzing them just yet.

He just kept swinging low over the new walls, the strange, powerful blocks of stone and mortar. The city was full of infantry, wearing white, black, red and...pink? Not enemies, Maggie'd told him. These were his forces, however weird they looked.

Banners were hanging all over the place with some kind of new logo: his own image, with a star-and-beams design. When he became an Overlord, he'd said that crests were Royalist and he wasn't going to have one. So who came up with this? He kind of liked it.

He circled and surveyed. There was the lake of lava, there was the stately, ornamented garrison, there was the new main gate, there was the lake again...

Where was Wanda?

Close behind Stanley as they circled, Jack and the Knight rode their puffing mounts. (Vurp. The Knight's name was Vurp. He was trying to get better about names.) He could hear the whip-snap of leather wings behind him, but those two knew better than to say anything when he was thinking.

Maybe Wanda was in the tower.

The Tool brought them in from Hamster's blind side, intending to pop up dramatically on the new perches. But as they neared the garrison, he got a closer look at the gleaming special regiments assembled for him below. Right, the Courtyard. That had to be Wanda, standing with a...blond warlord.

Oh. Oh, let that be Prince Ansom.

Stanley the Tool of the Titans nosed his dwagon over, and dropped into a dramatic dive.

He also seemed especially sensitive to a height crack back when Parson was first summoned. A reasonable* person who wasn't already short shouldn't take a height joke from a giant seriously.

*Yes I know we're talking about Stanley!
I don't get it. What is the building behind (above) the left tower? It looks like the front wall is missing. Is the ground supposed to slope up to the building's roof on the outside of the wall? How does this make sense at all?
Rekov, that's not a building, that's just the outer walls. For whatever reason, the gate area is like this:

__------__
--I------I
-[ ]----[ ]

granted, the outer wall on the left looks much higher than the gate wall or the outer wall on the right.

also, what is the free-standing wall behind the gate area (top right corner of the picture)? The garrison walls already? A wall around the lake of lava? A simple (tall) building?
Huh, Guess I was the only person thinking of Kim Jong Il when I saw the banners... But hey, that's nother short guy with a similiar banner and similiar views. XD

Stalin.... Stan li?

Hey, Moose, Stanley doesn't look short compared to gobwins... but he does seem short compared to Wanda.

wanda is not the plaid tribe. if we assume plaid refers to a scottish kind of direction they would most likely be highland body types short and stocky. so stanley is probably a normal height for his tribe. wanda is not plaid.

also i don't think we've seen stanley in a while, so his proportions against parson may have improved with the artistic rescaling of erfworlders.

Sure individual sides could *decide* to implement some sort of congress or cabinet of advisers ontop of the dictator system... but it seems like there aren't really any ways in system to long term prevent the rise of command and control... as the best I can come up with is a ruler whose ideals are somehow more democratic, and hence subordinates would be doing their duty to his ideals by assassinating him if he takes the reigns himself... but even that is only speculation, and there doesn't appear to be a way to force the next ruler to live under a similar system...

One option would be a side where most of the military power is held by barbarians. The Ruler is in effect a constitutional monarch.

He would have power due to ability to change build queues and also loyalty of the general units from the side, but he must keep the barbarians on side.

The barbarians could then all get a vote for the parliament.

It could also include a rule mandating that units are converted into barbarians after a while, so that the king doesn't get to powerful (but not to weak either). He has to be able to handle lawlessness but not have enough force to overcome the will of the majority of the barbarians.

Not sure if this is actually possible, but assuming that units can be sold to other sides, there may be a way to sell units to themselves.

Ofc, barbarians are actually all mini-rulers. Jillian has units under her command. Presumably, a barbarian warlord could have human units as part of the collection.

There seems little mechanism to get to that situation. The magic kingdom could be an example where a Ruler decided to offer sanctuary to casters and then ultimately became dependent on them. OTOH, there is no info on how it is actually ruled. It could be a special side created directly by the Titans as an exception.

Most dictators in the real world don't last forever because if the people mass against them, it is hard to resist. However, in Erfworld, the Ruler can just mass disband a protest that is challenging his power.

But isn't Wanda about Sizemore's size? The long and short of it is Stanley is short.

Heh. He needs a box to look at his own table.

Yes, and another one, with steps, to look over his own battlement
